Rivers

                           

1. Homosassa River

Location:

* Homosassa – Begins at the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park and runs to the Gulf of Mexico

Boat Ramps: Six (6)

Description:

* 9-mile River that runs into the Gulf of Mexico. 
* Great for paddling and all types of boating. 
2. Crystal River

Location:

* Crystal River – Begins in Kings Bay and runs west to the Gulf of Mexico.

Boat Ramps: Five (5)

Description:

* River is 7 miles long.
* The Main Spring is in Kings Bay. Smaller springs like Three Sisters Springs are along the river.
* Great for boating, canoeing & kayaking. 
3. Chassahowitzka River

Location:

* Southwest Corner of the County
* In the Town of Chassahowitzka – Follow Miss Maggie Drive West off of Highway 19 and travel 1.8 miles to the end.

Boat Ramps: One (1)

Description:

* River is 4 miles long.
* Many springs dot the river. 
* Not recommended for boaters who are unfamiliar with the river as there are many rock hazards and the channel markers are done by the locals. 
* Great for paddling and boats suitable for shallow waters.
4. St. Martins River

Location:

* Western Side of the County
* The St. Martins River empties into the Gulf of Mexico between the Crystal and Homosassa Rivers in Citrus County.

Boat Ramps: One (1)

Description:

* Very shallow pristine river through salt marsh islands with little to no development.
5. Salt River

Location:

* Crystal River to Homosassa – connects the two rivers.

Boat Ramps: Two (2)

Description:

* Very shallow pristine river with little to no development.
6. Halls River

Location:

* Homosassa – Connects to the Homosassa River and runs north. 

Boat Ramps: One (1)

Description:

* Short River that feeds into the Homosassa. It is one mile from the Headspring and Blue Waters (area outside the Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park).
* The Halls River runs north for about 3 miles from the Homosassa.
* Great for boating, canoeing & kayaking. 
7. Withlacoochee River

Location:

* Forms the Eastern & Northern borders of Citrus County.
* Runs from the Southeast side of the County up into Levy County where it empties into the Gulf of Mexico at Yankeetown.
* A dam on the Northern section forms Lake Rousseau

Boat Ramps: Five (5)

Description:

* One of very few northerly flowing rivers in the world. Pristine River with little development. Clear water but seems dark because of vegetation on the riverbed and the tannin it produces.
