2008  Quarter 1 Newsletter       Volume 1 Issue 1

So Long 2007—Hello 2008

As we enter into this new and exciting year of 2008, we are looking forward to the much-anticipated completion of the Chassa Oaks clubhouse and pool. The fact that our clubhouse had only walls and a roof did not stop the Chassa owners from hosting our "Very Merry Florida Christmas" party on December 8th within those 4 walls. The weather was magnificent, the decorations were flamingos and palm trees, of course, and the food was "down home Florida" cuisine. Barb McCorkhill got an unexpected birthday surprise. The key lime pie complete with candles (the number of which shall remain a secret) and the RV theme were enjoyed by all of us.

There was a nice turnout for the event and many promises to be back for our next party. Jim Eyster welcomed all the owners with an impromptu speech and Joan Eyster delighted us with some sinfully delicious cookies.

Windows and doors have been installed in the clubhouse as of 1/8/08 and the construction is rolling right along. Perhaps the theme for our next party should be a (club)house warming party.

Our second issue of the newsletter is going to press once again without a name. "The Chassa Chatter" is the leading candidate so far but we're still open to suggestions from you witty folks. I am certain that by the next publication one of you will have your name in the headlines as the contest winner. Let's all put on our thinking caps and come up with a name that is a real zinger. We are, after all, the newest and the best RV resort in Citrus County.

We wish you all a happy and prosperous 2008 from the Chassa Oaks staff.

Resort Happenings

Watch for more changes at the resort. The clubhouse construction is progressing nicely. The appliances have been selected (Amana) and we have been looking at furniture. Joe has been working on landscaping and an entrance sign.

Eco Tours of the Nature Coast

As experienced first hand by Norm and Beth

The Nature Coast is ecologically diverse, offering refuge to over 250 species of mammals including the beloved manatee. To see these wonderful creatures many areas require a boat, but a number of wildlife refuges have provided trails for hiking and biking and fishing areas for anglers.

The unique waters of Citrus County's nature Coast offer the "Tour de Jour". What's your pleasure? Boating, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, biking, land and water tours are yours for the asking on the nature Coast.

Recently, we booked an air boat tour to Bird Key, one of the many small islands dotting the area where the Little Homosassa River meets the Gulf of Mexico. We wanted to witness the migration of the White Pelicans. The sky and water were the same color that day so the islands looked as if they were suspended in mid-air. Thousands of White Pelicans gathered on the water and were not disturbed by our air boat. It was an amazing sight..

Our very knowledgeable guide pointed out sponges that resembled petrified rock. The Gulf floor was littered with what appeared to be golf balls. But don't bring your clubs; these organisms are coral which are federally protected!

Our 10 person air boat flew through the waters at amazing speed that I gave a thrill factor of A+, but if you don't feel the need for speed, then Eco Tours of the Homosassa or Chassahowitzka Rivers by kayak, canoe or even pontoon boat may be more to your liking. Several area companies have rentals for a full day of adventure on the rivers, salt marshes and surrounding mangrove islands.

Once you're launched from Chassahowitzka or Homosassa boat ramps, you are just a short paddle from clear blue springs, both large and small that feed the rivers. You may be visited by a gentle, curious manatee or two, view hundreds of spectacular fish and friendly dolphins, and revel in the shade of the Spanish moss-covered trees that canopy many areas of the rivers.

Information for Eco Tour providers is available at the Chassa Oaks sales office.
